Pace Academy’s Kai Daniella Hong Receives High Distinction in the 2024 Australian Mathematics Competition
Pace Academy is proud to announce that our very own Grade 8 student, Kai Daniella Hong, has earned a High Distinction in the prestigious 2024 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). This remarkable achievement places Kai among the top 3% of her year level, standing out in a global field of over 53,000 participants from 20 different countries.
The Australian Mathematics Competition, administered by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT) and locally coordinated by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG) Philippines, is an internationally recognized contest that tests students’ problem-solving skills in various areas of mathematics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, fractions, ratios, statistics, and logic. The competition consists of 30 multiple-choice questions, arranged in increasing difficulty, pushing participants to think critically and apply their knowledge in innovative ways.
Kai’s High Distinction certificate is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion for mathematics. This award is given to the top 3% of students in their respective year levels, recognizing those who excel not just in theory but in applying their mathematical skills to solve complex problems.
A Global Contest with Strong Filipino Representation
This year, the AMC saw 723 Filipino students emerge as top scorers, including Kai. The MTG Philippines, headed by Dr. Simon Chua, highlighted how Filipino mathletes continue to excel in this global contest, competing against students from countries such as China, Singapore, Vietnam, New Zealand, and Romania. Over 800 Filipino students took part in this year’s AMC, and their performances further demonstrate the strength of the Philippines’ academic talent in mathematics.
The AMC, held annually since 1976, is a competition that aims to inspire and challenge students around the world, fostering an appreciation for mathematics while developing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
