The International Mathematics Contest (IMC)
The International Mathematics Contest (IMC) in a contest organized by the International Mathematics Contest Union. Followed by “The science has no border” principle, the IMC Union is committed to popularizing mathematics education, and establishing a platform for communication and cooperation to arise the interests of youth to study math and strengthen their friendship between each other.
This year, IMC drew contestants from 15 countries and territories such as Australia, Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It was held in Singapore on August 2-5.
The PACE community congratulates the following students for participation and bringing with them medals in the said contest.
Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO)
The Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) is an annual international Olympiad competition organized by the Asia International Mathematical Olympiad Union since 2012. The contest serves as a platform for students to improve critical thinking skills and exchange knowledge, and to promote educational and cultural development.
This year, AIMO was held in Taipei, Taiwan on August 4-8 with attendees from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Macau, South Korea, Bulgaria and Myanmar.
Through his hard work and dedication, Mikkel Bennett Sy snatch a bronze medal.
Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC)
The Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) is a contest sponsored by the Po Leung Kuk Foundation. It started in 1997 and is designed for middle school level consisting of individual round and a team round.
On its 22nd year, 144 students from different areas of the globe such as USA, Australia, South Korea, China, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines competed on July 15-19, 2019 in Hong Kong. Out of these students, Sophie Jill Co got a bronze medal in the individual round. Meanwhile, Ian Gabriel Hong, together with his teammates grabbed first runner-up and was awarded silver medal in the team round.
The contest’s problems give emphasis on number theory, geometry and logic.
International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO)
The International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) aims to provide a platform for its contestants to interact and showcase their potentials and talents in math. It serves as a venue to stretch each student’s potential through deep conceptual understanding and logical thinking skills.
On July 26-30, 2019, the competition that was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia drew 1,100 contestants from 21 countries around the world. After competing with students her age, Kashieu Gabrielle Gan grabbed a silver medal to bring home with her.
